Artist Biography
DJ/Producer Dan Tonks
Style – Deep, Dark & Tribal Progressive House, Breaks and Ambient

The “Reactive Element” project is the alter ego of 28 year old DJ/Producer, Dan Tonks. Currently residing in Liverpool UK, Dan was born in Chester and has lived in Leicestershire and Gutersloh, Germany along the way. Having a Guitarist Father, with experience in MIDI & Sequencing, it’s not hard to see why Dan’s love affair with music came at an early age when he was introduced to both Classical music, by his Grandfather, and Electronic music in the form of Kraftwerk & Depeche Mode, by his Uncle. Dan studied Music at secondary school and around the same time discovered Pink Floyd (the source of Dan’s love with deep progressive music), and Electronic music once again in the form of House & Trance. This prompted Dan to buy some decks (Vinyl, remember those days?) to help him share this love of music with the world. Dan left secondary school in 2000 and relocated, through his occupation, to Germany. It was in Germany that Dan discovered Techno, and his sound of Deep Dark Progressive House laced with Tribal/Tech elements became the staples of his DJ Sets, and own clubbing experiences, in the after-hours clubs of Dortmund & Gutersloh.
Upon moving back to the UK, Dan continued to study Music Technology at college in Loughborough, Leicestershire, in between weekly trips to Midlands Superclub “Passion @ The Emporium, Coalville”, and in late 2004 moved back to the Northwest, where he currently lives. In 2006 He helped launch Cheshire FM’s “Friday Night Sessions”, providing Guest mixes for the first three episodes broadcast across the Cheshire area.
In 2009 Dan found an audience on an international scale when he launched his “Genetic Audio Podcast” series on the American network, Resonant Vibes. Over the 12 month period his shows clocked up in excess of 1000 downloads, fuelling Dan’s desire to keep recording mixes and expand his musical horizons.
2011 saw Dan, unofficially, remix Shiny Toy Guns’ “I Promise You Walls”, which was available as a free download from his Soundcloud page. This re-ignited his love for producing music and Dan has since begun work on a fresh Progressive House EP which he hopes to complete around Summer/Autumn 2012. It was also in 2011 that Dan joined the books on internet radio station Transmission FM, providing a monthly 2 hour mix showcasing the deeper and darker sides of the progressive genre, from house through to breaks and ambient.
2012 sees the Harmonic Formulas Progressive Show going from strength to strength and April will see the first episode of “Global Audio Chemistry” (Reactive Element’s monthly promotional mix) on the Mixcloud network. Dan made his debut on London’s “Habitual Sessions” on 05/04/12, broadcast on Audio-One www.twistedenergy.co.uk . Hopefully there will be another appearance in the pipeline!
