BiographyMatt Powell is 24 and comes from Reading. He has been honing his skills behind the decks on both vinyl and CDJs for about 6 years.

He got his first set of decks aged 19 and began spinning drum and bass and hip-hop for his mates at house parties and local bars. After finishing college, he moved out of his home town and opened his ears to house music. Matt started getting into funky house and the emerging electro scene, which saw him take a different approach to his DJing. He began to stretch out his mixes incorporating longer blends while still retaining the skills he had learnt from the �cut and chop� style he was used to

Fast forward to 2008 and Matt now has quite a few gigs under his belt. His break came when the promoter of local Reading night, Voodoo, offered him a chance to play in the newly refurbished garden at Mango. This led to a monthly residency throughout the summer and Matt would play from the early evening while the sun was setting, taking the people right through the night. These five or six hour sets enabled him to really gain confidence behind the decks and allowed him to be creative, both with his tune selection and technical ability, taking the crowd on musical journey from warm, funky, soulful house to deep minimal techno and groovy tech house.

This summer he hit the white isle playing two gigs in Ibiza. A daytime beach session for Qudos at The Orange Corner in San Antonio and another set in the back room at Caf�© Savannah on the sunset strip.

This led to him rocking the boat (literally) at a series of boat parties on the Thames and, more recently, providing the atmosphere in the VIP room at Reading�s newest nightclub, Sakura.

Matt blends an eclectic mix of house and techno suitable for any time of night. "I try to incorporate different types of music into my sets and hate it when people try to pigeonhole music into specific genres. If it makes you move, then it's all good to me."
