BiographyWho are you?
Hi my name is Jordan (a.k.a Bruce) and here is my story (a little..). I was born in Sheffield and I have always had a passion for music. From an early age I had a strong bond with many genres with electronica standing out from the rest. This all began from the first time I heard Born Slippy on a now 27 compilation when I was 10 years old. I was completely fascinated by the energy and drive this track had (I didn’t realise this at the time mind).

How did it all start?
I have been influenced by many different types of music ranging from the extremely hard rhythm based band Raging Speedhorn (et. al) to the uplifting elements of trance and house. By 13 my interests were consuming me and I had to make a (very hard) decision on which path I should go down. As things panned out I couldn’t afford any turntables so I chose to learn how to play the guitar. I bought a cheap Peavey guitar and after a few years I went onto playing in several bands with nothing ever materialising. Three years on and just turned 16; a fortunate meeting with a friend called Tom Metcalfe brought me in contact with a pair of turn tables for the first time. I’ll be honest; the instant I started playing I was completely hooked. My first pair of turntables was later purchased off Tom; I couldn’t wait any longer.

Tell us a bit about your progress through Eletronica?
The journey I’ve taken through the electronic music has been quite deep and eventful to say the least. Not that I think my experience is any different from that of anyone else. My (brief) experience in the industry (people, DJ’s & promoters) has appeared to show the same patterns as mine with individuals starting out on lighter stuff (Hed Kandi, Gatecrasher) then slowly making their way into the belly that is underground electronica.
In the early years I had issues trying to find the sound I was looking for. I searched and searched trying to find the sound that had the same sort of energy, power and tribal qualities that Born Slippy had but to no avail.

Any Problems?
The majority of my friends all listened to rock music and had no interest in a night out listening to electronic music (which I totally understand and appreciate) which made my life difficult until a chance encounter on my economics course whilst at university. It was there I met a good mate called Christopher Bates or Reg who had very similar tastes in music as I had. Looking back this was a turning point for me as I got to see in all its glory a real underground night with rhythm and styles that I had never heard before. I cannot explain how excited I was. I was still flirting with breaks and house till I was 19 and again it was Reg who introduced me to my first taste of techno and this was through the Fabric 23 Ivan Smagghe CD. After years of searching for my sound this CD was a clear indication of where I was heading and I knew it. This sound was of course Tech House and Techno with all its derivatives and trimmings. The first time I heard the Gekloppel continues (et. al) I was overjoyed with excitement

Biggest Achievement
This is not my biggest achievement but something I’m very proud of. At university I ran my own radio slot every Friday at the prime time of 6pm – 8pm show casing many new up and coming talents, sounds, genres and held interviews with many big name DJ’s from around the area. I also held many nights on behalf of the radio station around the Newcastle area.

What are you doing right now?
I now run a night in Barnsley known as MISH MASH with my good friend Andrew Donachie who was (to my amazement whilst writing this) another chance encounter at a night we Dj’d in Sheffield called Mondo-A-Go-Go. Our night now emphasises fresh sounds that delve into the deep, hard, groovy, bleepy and squeaky sides of house and techno (For further information please contact me).

What does the future hold?
A very difficult question. I shall continue to DJ as long as I can but I no longer believe that a chance encounter will further my success. I think in 2010 I will really try and push my name. This is something I have never done in the past and I feel it may have held me back somewhat. Hind sight is what I need but by then it will be too late. ha
