Assertively Azerty provides us with a dark techno foray into something akin to a House of Bedlam asslyumPosted 10/11/10 by macpromikem
so you may need to approach this first offering with trepidation; this is not your standard techno mixset with sounds uplifting and catchy, no. This mixset provides tracks you aren't going to hear anywhere else I don't think - and if you did, you've taken the correct colored pill.

I can see the people at this event where this was played properly hopping about to the tribal drums and slaps of sound modulating around them, the calls in foreign tongues cajouling them to dance with more vigor. This production has a lot of very industrial themes to it, and I can see it working really well as a background soundscape where one might set the speed of their work to the incessant droning of the beat, bleets, belts, and blips of this work.

About 40 minutes in a change of pace creeps into your room like some clownish nurse with a red nose ready to medicate you; and you accept. She mumbles things under her breath but you pay no mind, the dream you are now seeping into has control of your brain, dancing along to the upbeat tune you are lost - and while you hear voices, they make no sense in your hazy fog. Is it Spanish? Esperanto? Who cares, the tune has too good a beat to care.

Something I find stimulating in a DJs work is when I hear what I don't expect. When the track is melded to the the next track - but so far different than the last track, where you are transported to a different time or era, where the music immediately evokes a dream you've had, or a place you visited, or even a movie scene that made an indelible impact in your memory. Treats like this are sprinkled throughout this mixset like shafts of light made from vibrational waveforms that pierce your mind and send synapses along the neural net, pell melling you to extravagant places of wanderlust - or dank places with mewling, whining, scary children!

Make no mistake, there is more here than you are expecting. It is quirky, it is dark, it has fine mixing, and it is a first taste for us at Transmissionfm of the many mixsets under Azerty's belt.

Five stars for some really unusual tracks that left me feeling like I needed a cold shower to wake up from the dream!
