| Sophisticated and varied avantgarde house, sometimes of a Cabaret-like nature, set in the style of a backally ethnic bistro | Posted 02/16/09 by macpromikem |
| where the lasagane is layered with the most precious riccota and sweetest peppers (you've heard), the odor wafting from the old steel wood burning stoves smells of tomato and garlic, and the gypsy waitress (only working for tips) brings your menus and announces how happy she is to see you and can she bring you a splash of aquavit to get the night off to a great start?
Over in the dusty corner is a stage on which a quartet has assembled, about to play. An old black-fellow picks up a saxaphone and starts blowing a jazzy melody that everyone in the cafe seems to know as everyone's head and feet are bobbing to the music that seems to enter your soul and make you feel as ethnic as the bistro you are in! The red brick walls behind the tiny stage are covered with a green trailing vine - as perfect a vine as you've ever seen, the notes of the music trailing about in your brain just as perfectly; everyone seems in such an up-mood and look!, over by the band a couple of lovers have gotten up to dance to the vocalist. The music picks up tempo just as you've decided to order. It is all so perfect: this music, your date, the setting; you are in awe! The restaurant is filled with old and varied antiques and artposters announcing bands from the 30's and 40's. The smokey atmosphere of the space gives it a dreamy appearance and you hardly notice Gilda dropping off your entrees. Savoring each bite you reflect how all aspects of this music you are listening to while dining is nary like the meal you have been served. Each course transistions like magic into the next, and the sorbet uniting it all together - from your beef consumme to the caviared crackers to the raspberry chocolate parfait - is the DJ's chef-like talent for providing a mixset of superior taste and artistic, perfect plate presentation. From the most current in UK sound to very old school Laurie Anderson of '81, the Trapp Family bistro serves up magic and mystery in every dish, as good as you recall that night at that old backally cafe you once took a date to, and then got very lucky with, later that night. A wonder of a Housey-Techno mixset, full of everything really tasty, and fit for an epicurian. Five stars. 10 out of ten points. | |
