| "... but it's pretty what they call minimal now." - Ringo Starr | Posted 04/30/08 by macpromikem |
| "Musically interesting things" are here set amidst a stark backdrop of electromachinistic meanderings, a plodding-forth of rhythms and syncopations guaranteed to earworm their way into your cranium. Patter lyrics make statements of questionable nature (what is being said?) against a break-it-down mantra and you find yourself being pulled into a whirlwind of head-bobbing, heel-counting beats that give way to tinseled melodies and frenetic vocalizations. These tracks, all ambitious, all together make a more-than-minimal production here. Tinges of tribal; tricky trance bites; snippets of unintelligble language strewn saliciously; crisp counterpoints of thumps wedged against bright notes ever encircling your head: everything is here to make a minimalistic earbud heaven.
The length of this is perfect; much more could have been overkill. All tracks are gems in themselves and each works harmonously with the next. A nice undertaking to be enjoyed, perhaps entheogenically, when you have the time. This will satisfy any minimalist aficanado guaranteed, and also shows that Mr. Monster is a creation to be reckoned with in the minimal genre. Four stars. | |
